Ajax Skerries were established in 1994 and were formed as part of a second wave of professional football clubs set-up in the land of bricks. Hailing from Legoland Town, the first major urban area developed in the minifig state, the club's name was in fact inspired by Skerries, a football team from the Kingdom of ND Land. There is however no links between either clubs.
Since the 6th May 2001 the club has been under foreign ownership when the Gardinian paper manufacturer Woodies International purchased the side, then playing in Serie B, from the football association for a hefty £21m. The deal was somewhat controversial at the time with the new owners accusing the association of inflating the price because it was a foreign entity. On evidence there may have been some justification for holding such a view as the price tag was more than that paid for the then Serie A side Black Fortress Barbarians and nearly three times more than the fee paid for Sarafield United (now Sarafield Town Lock). Nevertheless, the league's governing body defended their valuation stating their belief that the club had the potential to become one of the biggest in the country. The club are yet to realise such status yet the third place finish in the 2008/9 Serie A season saw the club gain entry into the lucrative inaugural Super 16 Conference.
