With the expansion of the Serie A to a 24 team division, Castleland United were granted one of the two new places by the LFA for their past achievements in domestic competitions. The club, traditionally considered the second club in the Empire's often-troubled Castleland province after Lion Lakers, won an amazing five consecutive Derby Cup titles from 2003 to 2008.
The cup triumphs nevertheless were not accompanied by success in Serie B and the team failed to return to the top flight after relegation in the 2003/04 campaign. The Shields' fortunes may now be set to change after their recent takeover by the Castle Clan newspaper group. The company's owner and new Castleland United club president, Mr Prestigious Royalus, previously owned another of the region's top sides in Black Fortress Barbarians and had significant success with these.
Since their surprise off-the-field promotion, Castleland United have over-hauled their playing staff. The most notable signings for the club are Jonathan Zebina and former Castleland United star Lars-Gunnar Carlstrand.
