Established in 1994 as AC Fiorentina, the Violets have played just a handful of seasons in the domestic football scene's top flight. Despite some significant financial backing in the late 1990s the Ecnerolf city outfit failed to hit the big time and have for the most part languished in the Serie B and Serie C1a divisions. This history resulted in a legacy of perceived underachievement at the club, a view that many residents of Ecnerolf retain today.

The Violets's debut season in Serie A was the 1998/9 campaign. The season turned out to be a disappointing failure as the side imploded and finished the 38 round championship rooted to the bottom. The Purple as they are nicknamed had picked up a meagre 7 wins all season and would have to wait another 9 years to have a chance to make amends. In the intervening years the team did manage to steal the limelight for a brief moment by reaching the 2004/5 LFA Cup final. The game proved to be the Violets' sole note to fame to-date as victory over minnows Dublin South secured the cup and the team were given a heroes welcome back in Ecnerolf. Although many commentators at the time labelled the 2004/05 LFA Cup finalists as the weakest ever, the triumph is one with which fans of the Purple hold dear.

On 11 March 2008 a new era for the Violets began as the society were sold to Legañan oil tycoon Ricardo Rico in a £19.8m deal. The club, then lying in fifth place in Serie B, was seen by Mr Rico as a good potential investment and the minifig did not need to wait long for some success on the field as his new aquisition earned promotion to Serie A finishing a competitive 2007/8 Serie B season in 2nd place.

On 2 May 2010, the day after the final day of the 2009/2010 season, AC Fiorentina formally adopted their current name, the Violets FC, as part of the Legoisation Programme instigated by the Legoland Football Association.
