Lion Lakers AS are the largest club in the Castleland region of Legoland and get their support from the large base of Castle Lion soldiers. The club has however never amassed many trophies, the 1994-95 Serie A win the only silverware of note. The club did reach the final of the now defunct Coppa Latin in 1996, only to lose to Slavia.
On July 1st 2007 the club were sold to the Legoda car manufacturer group for a fee reported to be in the region of £90m. The deal forced Mr Legoda to give-up his honorary board membership at the Footballing Celebs as under LFA league rules a club owner cannot have interests in more than one top division football clubs.
The new owner quickly pumped money into the club and signed a number of high profile players including Ronaldinho and Wayne Rooney.
In December 2007 the club, struggling in the Serie A, fired long serving coach Arrigo Sacchi following a 3-0 home defeat to Port Villa. The loss to the Pirates, Lakers' fourth defeat in their last 6 games, saw the club fall into the relegation zone and caused anger among the club's supporters resulting in protests in the Castleland capital Rome. After the new Legoda owners splashed the cash before the start of the 2007/8 season, Lakers' 13th place finish was deemed a total failure. Worse was to come when the Legoland Football Association's annual audit of club accounts discovered accounting irregularities on the clubs books to the value of over £30m. The club, now over £30m in debt, offloaded some of its underperforming top stars including Gardinian superstar Ronaldinho and Wayne Rooney who left for Napoli and Inter Police in £25m and £9m deals respectively.
On 14th August 2008 the club were linked to a takeover by long-term sponsors the Export Company. According to reports in the Castleland press, the Export Company were considering offering £70m in addition to swapping SuperLeague club Emperor Eagles for Mr Legoda's Lakers. The following day, the eve of the XVII SuperLeague kick-off, Mr Legoda sold Lion Lakers for £60m cash and took over control of Emperor Eagles. Lion Lakers new owner Organius Crimus said the club would "undertake a revolution to bring back the glory days".
The club ammended it's crest with the reintroduction of the lion symbol on 10th February 2010.
