SuperLeague
Considered to be one of the SuperLeague's perennial dark horses, Port Villa have failed to cement themselves as one of the nation's top sides despite picking up the league title in 1994 and the LFA Cup in 2000. The Pirates, held back by a lack of financial clout, faired disastrously in the inaugural SuperLeague in the 1995/6 season and finished bottom of the Serie A. The club suffered the ignominy of being the only ever club to be relegated as reigning champions.
The team earned promotion back to Serie A after just one season in the second division yet they could not retain their top flight status and by the end of the 1997/8 campaign they were on their way back to Serie B.
Again a similar fate awaited the costal club as promotion was earned in the 1998/9 season only for relegation back to Serie B by the end of the 1999/0 campaign. The Pirates' seemingly endless yo-yoing was to come to an end the following season. Serie A football was secured again playing just one term in Serie B in 2000/1 and in the 2001/2 Serie A season the club finished a very successful season in third place, just a point behind top duo Inter Police and the Celebs.
The following 2002/3 season was significantly less successful as the side finished in 16th position, just 3 points off the drop, but importantly the team had managed to spend two successive seasons in Serie A for the first time ever. The club has retained its top flight status ever since.
The 2003/4 campaign saw the Pirates finish in 12th place and this was followed up with a 5th place finish in 2004/5. In the 2005/6 season the team finished 9th, 11th in 2006/7 and 10th in 2007/8.
On the 3rd March 2008, Port Villa appointed former player Acosta as the club's president. Acosta saw his team finish the season once again in 10th place.
