LFC are expected to name a successor to Van Basten in the coming days.
With 12 Serie A games remaining there are 36 points up for grabs. LFC have a tricky enough run-in with games against Ajax Skerries,
Republic, BFB, and Inter Police all awaiting.

Legoland FC have sacked Marco Van Basten after the team's 1-0 win over Greentown Athletic was met by jeers from the Partizan crowd. A goal by Raúl in the 16th minute was not enough to save Van Basten's managerial career and the minifig seemed to known it before the final whistle blew. The fact that LFC won and yet terminated their manager's contract, has led some credence to reports earlier in the week that the Blues had already lined up his successor.
Speaking after confirmation of his dismissal, Van Basten hit out angrily at the LFC hierarchy and in particular club president Gheorghe Hagi. "I don't know why Hagi appointed me 5 weeks ago if he just wanted me to slip up. I didn't lose a single league game in charge and I led the team to second place. What more can be asked of me in such a short period of time? I'll tell you this, I will never ever manage in Legoland again".
What certainly did not help the former LFC boss was the fact that Ajax Skerries' loss to the Celebs coupled with Legoland United's victory over Fiorentina allowed the red half of the capital to go top. A packed Artemio Franchi stadium was stunned by the visiting Legoland United team as goals from Leper in the 5th and 78th minute and Cripple in the 50th saw the home side trounced 3-0. "We can do it if we believe in ourselves and respect our opponents" said Reds' boss Mr United. He also heaped praise on his attacking trio, Leper, Cripple and Christy. "They have all been in fantastic form this season, really the best collective form from the bunch probably since the 1993 season when they lit the first Serie A alight. I'm certain one of them will finish the season as the division's top scorer and sure they deserve it".
The Celebs' win over Ajax Skerries was crucial as the Turin club's disaster season has left the former champions hovering above the drop into Serie B. The 2-1 win, achieved with goals from Alexandre Pato and Florent Malouda, still leaves the giants in a precarious position, two places above the relegation zone. Below them lie Greentown Athletic and in the zone itself lie Lion Lakers, Torino and Robin Rangers. The Lakers face a crucial game next week against Parma as a big victory could see the club move out of the zone for the first time this season should Greentown Athletic also lose heavily against Ajax Skerries. Lakers boss Tarcisio Burgnich told reporters in Castleland that although he considers Parma a good side, they are "beatable".
Parma nevertheless ran out 1-0 winners over Port Villa today, the Yellow-Blues' fourth victory on the trot. Also hitting form is Lazio who despite remaining manager-less collected all three points against BFB to secure their third consecutive win.
In Serie B, Stuart Spacers, who recently pumped another £5m into a promotion push, had a crucial 2-1 win over Sampdoria and now lie in fifth position tied on 55 points with the Genoa club. The top three positions are occupied by Third Division UASL who have 67 points, Atlas Bell who have 64 and Milan with 56.
