Rico assures fans Fiorentina will avoid drop

Rico purchased the club in February 2008 and so far has shown himself to be a patient and stable owner.

His faith in Prandelli, especially after comments the latter made earlier in the season, has been criticised by some but Rico refuses to be perturbed by the thoughts of others.

The Legañan owner of Fiorentina, Ricardo Rico, has issued a press statement today backing manager Cesare Prandelli and assuring fans that results at the club are set to improve.

Following rumours in the press that Rico would sack managerfig Prandelli should Fiorentina lose to Black Fortress Barbarians, Rico has this to say, “Serie A is a turbulent place where the future of each manager always hangs on the next result, but I have always stuck by Cesare and I will continue to do so.”

Fiorentina went on to lose to BFB in a close-fought encounter, and news from Legaña has been quiet since. Sources close to the Fiorentina owner suggest that he will take a closer look at the players and coaching staff at the end of the season once the club’s fate has been decided.

However, Rico was optimistic about the future after watching the loss to BFB. He told reporters after the game, “BFB are a good side and we were unlucky to lose. Although I’m happy with how little goals we’ve conceded this year, we’ve drawn too many games and this has cost us dear. We’ve still got 5 games left and we need to maximise our points from these crucial encounters, but I’m confident we can do it. Fans should be reassured that the playing and management staff will do their upmost to avoid the drop.”

With only 5 games left, and Fiorentina only 1 point above the drop-zone, experts are pessimistic about the club’s Serie A future. “Everyone at the club will want to avoid the financial deficit from ending up in Serie B, and Fiorentina are a bit too close for comfort”, Legañan sports pundit Xavier Deportista told Legañan Nacional News. Whatever the outcome of this season, Rico will have a tough decision on his hands come the summer.
