LFC smash Legoland and world record fee to land superstar

Legoland FC's £60m (ND€75m) signing is more than double the previous Legoland record of £27m paid in 1997 when Inter signed Roma's "Fat" Ronaldo.

Speaking to reporters, their new star said he was "delighted to be at the world's most respected club" and was pleased at LFC's "fine start to the season".

Legoland FC have stunned the nation this morning with the announcement that they have broken the world record football transfer by splashing out a reported £60m on a single minifig. Unveiling Franck Ribéry, one of Serie A's top performers over the last few seasons to the media, LFC's president spoke of his delight at securing the move.

"Ribéry is our minifig", said Francesco Pedone. "We believe we have secured the best player available on the market and a player that will reap us huge rewards both on and off the pitch. Ribéry epitomises our philosophy at Legoland Football Club; undisputed attacking flair mixed with hard work, team work and a determination to win. My final word out goes to Lion Lakers. We thank Lion Lakers for their gentlefig approach to negotiations and look forward to doing deals with them again. Some clubs and club owners out there can learn a few things from the Lakers' about etiquette."

The backdrop to the swoop was LFC's decision last night to pull-out of a £37.5m (ND€50m) move for ND Land FC's Ricardo Kaká citing "immature, unsporting and unprofessional behaviour" by the ND Land club during negotiations. The Cartel also had words for Serie A's every own BFB, who submitted a surprise £40m bid for the Gardinian yesterday. "Hijacking a transfer is a pretty low thing to do. It appears some clubs lack any class whatsoever". In a parting shot seemingly directed at both clubs, LFC stated that they hope "these clubs" do not "face the similar treatment in future when they are pursuing top players."

If the £60m deal is confirmed, the signing will have eclipsed the previous world record set on 2 April 2002 by ND Land club Albern when they purchased Alex Taribello from Legoland United in a deal valued a £53m that involved £40m cash and striker Roy Makaay. The Minifig Times' sports correspondent, Mr Armchairus Fanus, gave his opinion on the signature. "Ribéry is a fantastic player and would strengthen any club he goes to. £60m is a enormous amount of money to pay for anyone and his £6m annual salary could have a major impact on LFC's long-term financial stability. Nevertheless if the player proves to be the pivital acquisition that secures the Cartel the Serie A title this year and a good run in the Super 16 Conference, the LFC board can consider Friday 4th September as a job well done."

Meanwhile, Jesus has hit out at the deal calling the sums involved "immoral". "When will 'figs learn that greed is not a virtue?." Jesus was later arrested for disturbing the peace.

Reaction also came in from Ricardo Rico's Fiorentina in a statement released by his club. "Rico and Fiorentina are disgusted by the £60m LFC spent on Ribéry. In a time of economic turmoil, Rico believes it’s a disgrace to be forking out such obscene sums!"
