Greentown miracle continues with victory over Parma

news

Alan McManus, here shown swamped by supporters of the Greens, has been a pivital figure in the topsy-turvy fortunes of the club since taking over from former owner Primus Stove in April of last year.

GREENTOWN-Greentown Athletic's astonishing return to form continued this afternoon with a valuable 3 points picked up away to Parma. Christian Zaccardo, on loan from Legoland United, headed home the winner 19 minutes from time to secure his temporary club's fourth straight win and stretch the club's unbeaten run to 9 games.

Bearing in mind the club have won just 8 games all season, 2010 has seen a huge change in fortunes and the club are now tipped by most pundits to avoid relegation. The points secured today have lifted the side off the bottom for the first time since Round 10 of the current campaign with the unenviable bottom position now taken up by Atlas Bell.

Supporters of the club have praised Green Island businessfig Alan McManus for the commitment he has shown to the club and other more delusional fans, many whom now find themselves on an unplanned holiday in prison, suggested he could be a deity. One fan interviewed on the streets of Greentown, Dimwitel Wiggly, said McManus' message to fans in November was nothing short of superminifig. "He told us to be patient, he told us he was fiddling around with different combinations and he told us things would improve. He was right, things have improved!"

Meanwhile away from the football field and away from the retards, Greentown Athletic's Serie A survival is paramount to the fiscal wellbeing of the club. The side are believed to be burdened by a massive debt, with some sources close to the club suggesting figures in the region of £75m in the red. Relegation to Serie B would incur a financial penalty and this, combined with the loss of substantial television, sponsorship and ticket revenues, could see the club go to the wall, a fate none of the club's supporters wish to contemplate at this point.
